Blog. Now there’s an interesting word.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, this shortened word was coined May 23, 1999.
According to Wikipedia, Jorn Barger coined the term “weblog” (a log on the web) on December 17, 1997. Then on that historic date in May 1999, Peter Merholz jokingly broke the word into the two-word phrase, “we blog.”
According to Bee Bloeser, yours truly, I blog. Let’s make that past tense. I blogged.
Since July 13, 2017, on a regular schedule, I’ve done a blog post.
Going forward, I’ll give you “articles” through my website and my email newsletter. (I’ll include the information in this post in the first of those newsletters.) Will an article read differently than a blog post? Sometimes.
Some may be book reviews. Some may just pass along an interesting item that comes across my desk. Topics will continue to cover smallpox, global health, the places we lived in West Africa—Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon, or the journey of writing a book and getting it out into the world. Check them out.
And you’ll still be able to comment. I love getting your comments, and I do reply.
Connecting with People, aka Building a Platform
I’ll shift my time and focus to pursue other avenues of connecting with people—adding other planks to my platform. I’ll pursue more public speaking opportunities.
And I’m a writer. Right? I want to create some new material.

What or who has prompted me to put greater focus into my activities? The volunteers at SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives), an arm of the Small Business Administration.
They have been coaching over the past three months. I could sometimes wish they would do the work for me. But they don’t. They won’t. They inspire and instruct. And give homework.
Here’s an example. Don’t you love the new look of my website? Especially the Welcome page?
SCORE is also challenging me to stretch myself and get moving on some connections I’ve been talking about for months. Now, it’s my homework, so time for action. No more talk.
